One Small Email, One Big Blessing
One night last week while I was in and out of sleep, one of my friends kept coming to mind. When I got up, he was still on my mind so I prayed for him. That usually would have been the end of the story, but I felt impressed that I needed to email him, so I did.
Hey man. Not sure why, but last night you were in my dreams…. Just wanted you to know that I was praying for you this morning.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
This is his reply:
Holy Schamoly! I can’t believe I just opened this email as I sat in my chair for my first day as the unofficial Executive Pastor of XXXX. Pastor asked me to assume all responsibility for day to day operations as Executive Pastor…. So, no title change but now the deacons and finance team and personnel and the whole deal are in my area. Thanks for the prayers.
I know the email was a blessing to him, but it ended up blessing me more than him. I have always believed that we can walk with God moment-by-moment; not just being obedient in the big things, but also in the all the small impulses of life that are easy to write off. This has been a goal for my life, although it often feels like I don’t meet it. This email encounter has caused me to listen to the Father a little closer this week. Thank you Lord for letting me see the fruit of obedience.
