Provision & Bass Players

by brent on September 15, 2008

Since January I have known that I needed to find some bass players for our bands. We were two deep on every instrument but bass, and I knew our only bass player would be leaving for college in August.

For a church our size, the typical thing to do would be hire out a bass player. We had NO prospects in our church and I had already called all the pro bass players I knew and they all had “gigs.”  I was kind of freaking out. It was May and I only had a couple of months for a solution.  I called Mark, our electric player, and he said he could find us a player, but they might not be a Christian. Then I was really freaking out. I was looking for some wisdom on the whole non-Christian in a worship band topic. That afternoon I went to Bob Kauflin’s blog, and read this post. God used it solidify what I already believed. In a state of emergency, I was almost willing to violate a value we have always held, our band members must be a part of our church.  That afternoon I began praying like wild-man that God would provide some bass players.

God answered.  We are now in our second month of our TWO new bass players playing with us. Both of these guys have come to our church since that day in May.  One grew up in our church, and just returned home from College, the other just moved to the area.  Both guys have extensive background in worship bands, and are currently laying down some serious bass grooves at NorthWood Church.

Welcome Aboard Josh and Jacob.
