Stopping the Excuses

I have made excuses,  have you?

I love Christian biographies.  Books about men and women in history that walked with God in ways deeper than I know and as a result, the fruit of their life can only be explained by a strong divine presence.  When I read these books, or see any Christian with a deep walk and lots of fruit, I want what they have.  In fact, I think that all Christians want what they have, just like every boy holding a basketball want to be like Michael Jordan.

We see their fruit and want it, but we do not see the spiritual work they did to produce the fruit.  We all want the faith of George Mueller, but do not want to sit and pray.  We want a far-reaching ministry like Hudson Taylor’s, but we do not want to be obedient where we are.  We want to worship like our favorite worship leader, but we do not want to practice the presence of God in our everyday life.

God has been gracious to me to open my eyes to my lack of training in godliness (1 Tim 4:7). Moving mountains will never be accomplished by a faith that only has a “quiet time”.  It will be accomplished by a faith that walks moment-by-moment with God.

I have no delusions of being a perfect little Christian who can check off all the boxes.

Consider this the start of a journey that stops the excuses.
