My Soul Finds Rest

by brent on September 15, 2009

This is not a new song, but it has ministered to me like crazy this morning. I played it over and over again to remind  my heart and my mind that God alone is the source of my rest.

May your soul find rest in our great God.

Outward Focused Album: Go to Everyone

by brent on November 19, 2008

I have had multiple people ask me about some songs that we have been doing lately.  November is our month that we lead people to give and go to missions. This year we have used a couple songs off of Billy and Cindy Foote’s Album “Go to Everyone.” You can get it on iTunes.

The Songs we have uses are “Go to Everyone” and “There’s More Room.” I also love “Die the Death.”It is not a great corporate song, but it is a great personal medidation song.

What mission/world focused worship songs do you use?

Free Song: The Great Exchange

by brent on November 18, 2008

Last year I wrote a song based on 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.  We did it a couple of weeks ago at NorthWood and thought you might like to have it. The crux of the song is that Jesus gave us new life, but he also gave us ministry of reconciliation as well.

Here is the Mp3 straight from the board (it is not perfect) and a chord chart.  This is a recording from one of the first times we did it.  We now have shortened the bridge, and do not do the pre-chous after the bridge.  Those changes are notated on the chart.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Rhapsody: Save Money…Listen to More Music

by brent on November 6, 2008

I simply cannot afford to buy all the music I would like to listen to. So I use Rhapsody.

Reasons I use Rhapsody:

  1. Discover New Music -  There are hundreds of new albums realeased every week. Most of them are not worth buying, but with Rhapsody, I can still listen through the album to see if it is good or not. Also, this is the way we look for music for specials for our worship serivices.
  2. Worth a Listen But Not Worth Buying - There is a lot of music that is worth listening to, but not worth buying.  I hate to admit it, but being from Oklahoma, sometimes I just need a good ol’ country song, or I remember a band I loved in high school and want to listen to their album. With Rhapsody, I can listen to it all, but never have to spend the money to buy it.
  3. Extensive Catalog – I have yet to find a major label band or song that is not on Rhapsody.
  4. Save Serious Money - To access Rhapsody, you pay a monthly subscription fee. For $12.99 a month, a little less than the price of a CD, you get to listen to over 2 million songs, at CD quality levels, as much as you want.  There is no limit.

If you are a worship pastor, you will save your church serious money by using Rhapsody.

If you are a music lover, you will love the the amount of music you can listen to.

You can check it out for free. Get a 14-Day Free Trial to Rhapsody

by brent on October 8, 2008

We are in a series called “Crave.” Jordan wrote a song (and I helped at the end) that really goes well with the series. People really connected with it this past Sunday. Here is the MP3 and the PDF of the chord chart. Feel free to use it, or pass it along.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

New Music You Should Buy

by brent on August 19, 2008

Charlie Hall’s new record has hit the shelves and you should buy it.

Like his other projects, this record is not going to get a lot of radio play, and most congregations will not be singing “Hookers and Robbers” corporately.  But Charlie continues to have some of the deepest lyrics out there for worshipers who want to engage with God.  These authentic lyrics are set on a bed of music that is a breath of fresh air for those weary of radio-ready worship projects.  On the other hand, for those who love mainstream music may never connect with the approach this project takes.  There are a few tracks that could make it into our Sunday Morning rotation, but mostly I am going to be listening to this personally and loving every second of it.

Here is another helpful review of the project.
