The Butterfly Circus: A Story of Redemption

by brent on October 28, 2009

This short film is the most beautiful thing I have seen in a long time.  A brilliant story of hope and redemption.  I might have even sprung a little leak in the corner of my eye.  it is long, but so worth it.

To view the film in a larger format go here.

picture-1The next couple of days I will be at Echo Church Media Conference in Dallas.

There are some great speakers who are going to be there.  I am looking forward to learning and connecting with friends from around the US. I am also interested in watching the dynamics of a whole lot creative types who are very savvy  in social media. Should be Fun!

If you are going, hit me up. I would love to connect.  You can also follow me on twitter to catch real time updates.

What are you doing this week?

Marriage Portrait – Bump

by brent on January 20, 2009

A couple of weeks ago I showed you a picture of my office during a shoot for an upcoming bump. Here is the final product  we are using for a series on marriage. The series is called “The Marriage Portrait.”

Marriage Portrait Bump from Chris Johns on Vimeo.

I am becoming quite the hand model. You can see these digits in action here too. I didn’t know my hands were that attractive…. Oh wait they are not, I am just the sorry sucker that is around when they need a picture or video!

I feel used.

Plant Killer

by brent on January 15, 2009

plantThis was my plant.

I was out of the office over the holidays.  I didn’t water it.  It died.  I was sad.

I have always been the type of guy who wants plants and a pretty yard with flowers.

I think I have come to reality…. It is not going to happen.

But I have kept the dead plant on my window seal because it reminds me of the truths of John 15.

Yes, I am a plant killer.

Back in the Saddle

by brent on January 6, 2009

After a long break, I am back.  Here are some of the highlights  of the past couple of weeks.

  • Vacation Rocks. Last week I spent the whole week at home with my family.  No emails, no blog, no twitter, just family.  Usually my vacation is spent going to see family.  It was a blessing.
  • My Wife Rocks.  My wife has been incredible the last couple of weeks.  She did some incredible stuff with our family during the Christmas seaso0n.  Now she has gone above and beyond and has launched a “30 days until Brent is 30″ gift giving campaign.  Thats right, she is giving me gifts everyday this month until I turn 30 on Jan 30th.
  • NorthWood Staff Rocks. Yesterday the pastoral staff of NorthWood spent a day of strategic planning together with Wild Works. We may not be the best preachers, worship leaders, etc.  But I can’t imagine a better pastoral team.  Each one loves and seeks after God and has laid down their life for a  common vision. We had an incredible 2008, I can’t wait to see what God does in 2009.

Now back to work.

Ass or Sheep?

by brent on December 11, 2008

Input Needed.

So we are going to sing “What Child is This” this weekend at NorthWood. Here is the start of the 2nd verse.

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?

During rehearsals last night I realized that anyone under 40 is going to snicker when we sing it. So we went on a quest to find a one syllable animal that would have been at the manger. We came up with sheep.

So the question is, do we sing ass and let everyone try to hide their laughter, or do we change the words and sing sheep?

So this may be the only time you have permission to use what can be offensive language in the comments.

Should we sing Ass or Sheep?

Being Thankful

by brent on November 27, 2008

Not sure where you are today, but I thought that we could be thankful together.

Reasons I am thankful.

  • The feeling I still get when I kiss my wife
  • Avery’s big hugs
  • Elliana’s many facial expressions
  • There is a boy in Kari’s belly
  • I get to lead worship at NorthWood
  • Grace to live each day and grace that saved my life

Your Turn.

What are you thankful for today?

Thank You God for Webcams

by brent on October 22, 2008

A little comic relief in the midst of a crazy week. Make sure you pick it up at around 2:30.

Why is others pain so fun to watch.
